Heal the hood production

Hip Hop is something I grew up on, from International artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Biggie Small, Tupac, Bone thugs to the local artists in POC (Prophets of the City), Brasse Vannie Kaap and Black Noise to name but few. So when the opportunity to cover a show produced and directed by Emile Xy (formerly of Black noise) was presented to me (Via whatsApp of course) it was something that I couldn’t refuse. So off I went, camera in one hand, tablet in the other… PotzCorner went to the theatre (close your mouths)

The show starts off with a monologue from the dancers each sharing their experiences about their road travelled so far in their respective dance careers. It’s quite sad. As most of the dancers are experiencing that their support structures are discouraging them from doing what they love as there is “no money in it”. It’s a rather graphic and brutal look into the lives of kids who just love to dance. Kids who are willing to turn their dreams into a reality even without the support structures, that everyone trying to follow their dreams deserves. Continue reading
